La batalla de Little Big Horn o el canto del cisne de los Pieles Roja

en el contexto de las denominadas Guerras Indias, desarrolladas después de
la guerra civil en Estados Unidos. Impulsadas por los gobiernos

norteamericanos, después de 1865, éstas tenían el objetivo de reducir a los

nativos, que habitaban en las grandes praderas del país, obstaculizando con
ello el progreso de la nación y en particular, la unión del territorio entre la

costa este y la oeste. La batalla de Little Big Horn, implica a nuestro juicio,
dos cuestiones fundamentales para el desarrollo posterior de los

enfrentamientos, entre el ejército estadounidense y las fuerzas indias. Por
una parte, significó el mayor triunfo de los Pieles Roja, traduciéndose en una

masacre sobre el enemigo blanco. Por otra, la batalla de Little Big Horn

representa el comienzo del fin de la resistencia india, que termina con la
reducción de estos pueblos, en un proceso de aniquilación sistemático y

progresivo.

Abstract

On June 25, 1876, in the imposing prairies of Montana, the decisive
battle of Little Big Horn took place, in which the forces of the U.S. Army and in

particular, the Seventh Cavalry Regiment, faced the brave redskin warriors.
The Union soldiers were commanded by Lieutenant Colonel George A.

Custer, while the Indians were led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. The events
that took place are an account of a massacre, in which all of Custer's men,

including himself, lost their lives. We review here, this specific battle, in the

context of the so-called Indian Wars, developed after the Civil War in the
United States. Promoted by the American governments, after 1865, these had

the objective of reducing the natives, who inhabited the great prairies of the
country, thus hindering the progress of the nation and in particular, the union

of the territory between the east and west coasts. The battle of Little Big Horn,

implies in our opinion, two fundamental questions for the later development of
the confrontations, between the American army and the Indian forces. On the

one hand, it meant the greatest triumph of the redskins, resulting in a
massacre over the white enemy. On the other hand, the battle of Little Big
